Size: Approximately 18–25 cm in length

Difficulty (Keeping): Beginner to Intermediate; hardy species when maintained with stable humidity and deep substrate

Breeding Difficulty: Intermediate; breeds steadily in well-established enclosures with adequate moisture, calcium, and organic material

Temperature: Keep within 22–27°C

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is preferred while maintaining airflow and avoiding waterlogged substrate conditions

Ventilation: Moderate ventilation is recommended to maintain fresh airflow while preserving humidity

Diet: Provide a diet consisting primarily of decaying leaf litter and rotting hardwood, supplemented with vegetables, calcium sources such as cuttlebone, and occasional protein-rich foods in small amounts

Habitat Setup: Use a spacious terrestrial enclosure with deep organic substrate rich in decomposing wood and leaf litter. Maintain a moisture gradient with consistently damp lower substrate layers and slightly drier surface areas. Cork bark and hardwood pieces can be added as shelter and feeding surfaces

Additional Notes: Spirostreptus sp. “1 Tanzania” is a large tropical millipede species appreciated for its impressive size, peaceful behaviour, and suitability for naturalistic tropical enclosures. Like many giant African millipedes, it functions primarily as a detritivore and benefits from mature substrate rich in decomposing organic material. Species within the genus Spirostreptus can be sensitive to poor ventilation and deteriorating substrate quality over long periods, making regular substrate maintenance important for long-term colony health
