Origin: Domesticated silk moth lineage originating from Asia

Size: Wingspan approximately 10–15 cm

Difficulty (Keeping): Beginner to Intermediate; generally hardy under stable warm conditions

Breeding Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate; breeds readily with suitable host plants and humidity

Temperature: Keep within 22–28°C

Humidity: Moderate humidity is preferred, especially during moulting and emergence

Ventilation: Good ventilation is required to reduce condensation and wing deformities during emergence

Diet: Larvae commonly feed on castor, privet, lilac, and several alternative host plants depending on local availability

Habitat Setup: Use a spacious, well-ventilated enclosure with appropriate host plants and sufficient vertical space for cocoon spinning and adult wing expansion

Additional Notes: Samia ricini is a domesticated giant silk moth valued for its large size, calm behaviour, and ease of breeding. Adults do not feed and rely entirely on stored energy reserves accumulated during the larval stage
