Size: Approximately 3–4 cm for males and 4–5 cm for females as adults.
Difficulty (Keeping): Moderate; relatively adaptable, but sensitive to excessive moisture and poor ventilation. Good airflow and suitable vertical space for moulting are essential.
Breeding Difficulty: Moderate; breeding is achievable but requires careful timing and a well-fed female, as females can be aggressive towards males. Oothecae generally hatch after approximately 4–6 weeks under suitable conditions.
Temperature: 24–30°C (75–86°F) during the day, with a nighttime drop to around 20–22°C (68–72°F).
Humidity: Moderate; around 50–60% during the day, rising to approximately 70–80% at night. Light misting can provide drinking droplets, but the enclosure should be allowed to dry between mistings and must have excellent ventilation.
Note: Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii, commonly known as the Spiny Flower Mantis or African Flower Mantis, is a striking species from eastern and southern Africa. Its green body is covered with distinctive spines, while the forewings display large spiral eyespots that are revealed when the mantis performs its defensive display. Nymphs are dark and ant-like before developing their characteristic adult coloration. Adults should be housed individually due to their cannibalistic nature.
