Size: Approximately 5–7 cm as adults, with females generally larger and more robust than males.
Difficulty (Keeping): Easy to Moderate; a relatively hardy mantis when kept warm with good ventilation and appropriate humidity. Adequate vertical space is essential for successful moulting.
Breeding Difficulty: Easy to Moderate; generally breeds readily when mature and well fed. Females can produce multiple oothecae, with hatching typically occurring around 4–6 weeks after laying under suitable conditions.
Temperature: 24–28°C (75–82°F) during the day, with a nighttime drop to around 20–22°C (68–72°F).
Humidity: Moderate; approximately 40–60% is suitable, with occasional light misting to provide drinking water. Avoid keeping the enclosure constantly wet or excessively humid.
Note: Omomantis zebrata, commonly known as the Zebra Mantis, is an attractive South African species with a slender green body and distinctive black-and-white markings on the wings. It is an active predator that readily accepts appropriately sized flying insects and other suitable prey. Young nymphs can be raised communally when well fed, although adults are best housed individually.
